Are you ready to dive into the world of 60 degree quilting designs? Our Star 60™ tool brings the same concept of oversizing and trimming down into the realm of 60 degree shapes. We begin with a basic Star 60 unit, containing a diamond and two small triangles in 17 different size options, and then team this unit up with a multitude of additional shapes to create an array of amazing 60 degree quilt projects.
Of course, you will find all the same benefits you have come to expect from every Studio 180 Design tool. There are multiple size options, oversizing and trim down for better accuracy, fine lines for higher precision, right and left hand instructions, free videos, supporting patterns, incredible design options, ease of use with other patterns, and an increased success rate for every level quilt maker.
We love fancy diamonds and bet you do too, so thought we would add them to our Star 60 units. You can make this variation in 17 unit sizes, from 2” up to 18” in 1” increments. If you are making those units into stars, that would be 4” to 36” stars in 2” increments. This technique is a bit of a challenge but what a result!
We love using this simple unit to add additional interest to Star 60 designs. This is a great, easy to construct, basic unit that we are using more and more as we continue to work with the Star 60® tool. The unit you make with this technique sheet is sized the same way as the Star 60 unit, so if you want your Capped 60 unit to match up with a 5” Star 60 unit, you’d make a 5” Capped 60 unit.
Time to add some spin to your Star 60 units. With our process and your Star 60® tool, you will be able to strip piece and oversize the units to increase your speed, accuracy, and enjoyment when making this star variation.
Our Quad 60 Technique Sheet, a companion for the Star 60 tool, will add a fun new triangular unit to your bag of 60° piecework tricks! Each diamond is made up of two triangles, so when you add the side triangles you have four triangles in the unit. Now that’s sure to add some sizzle to your designs! Starting with an oversized strip piecing technique, followed by trim down steps using the Star 60 tool, you’ll be amazed at how quickly these units come together.
If you love jazzing up your stars as much as we do, this is one that you’re not going to want to skip! The Framed 60 Technique Sheet allows you to create a Star 60 unit with a contrasting band of color added around the outside edge of the diamond. Sew six together and you will get a beautiful framed star, but you can also use them in conjunction with other 60° units to create really interesting looks.
Time to grab your favorite group of 2½” strips and make yourself a field of flowers. Try working with ombre fabric for a fun result, or just some happy, colorful prints. The quilt will look amazing no matter what you choose.
With a simple twist on the traditional Star 60 block, a subtle mountain and valley design develops. It’s hard to tell this is a hexagon block. Fun and fat quarter friendly this block can be made with just two fabrics or several fabrics creating a scrappy look.
