The circular design of this quilt makes me think of a reflecting pool, with the surface of the water rippling in the breeze. The cool blues and purples provide a feeling of serenity. The intricate design is made easier with straight seams and an on point setting. It is suggested that you have good intermediate skills to be successful with this pattern.
This tool is a must have if you like making quilts with these tall star point units. Sometimes known as “Peaky and Spike”, a nickname attached to the unit about 20 years ago by a famous quilter, Doreen Speckman, this particular shape has perplexed quilters forever. With Deb’s tool, which you can see used on our free online video demonstration (see below, also on YouTube), you’ll be cutting the center and side triangles slightly over sized and then with the same tool trimming the sewn piece to an extremely precise unit with seams perfectly placed for crisp, sharp points at every intersection. So think about adding this magnificent new tool to your toolbox, you’ll be glad you did.
Growing up in Vermont, my favorite sign of spring was snowdrop flowers popping out from under the snow. I always found the dichotomy between their delicate looks and their hearty resistance to the bitter cold of the Northeastern winters particularly striking. This quilt is inspired by these blooms, blossoming in the dark and cold, against all odds.
Your next modern quilt project will be taking quite the upward trajectory and you'll be flying high with our Flight Path project! Two sizes of V Blocks and Flying Geese create a dynamic design with lots of open space for some amazing quilting. This quilt is easy to construct with the V Block and Wing Clipper 1 tools.
The unique asymmetrical design of Aurora will remind you of the Northern Lights and their undulating colors that dance across the sky. Two simple units create the Aurora design, and when you cut the centers for the Corner Beam units, the cutaways are used to create the side triangles of the V Block units. There are some cutaways left over, so a fun and easy bonus pattern called Twilight is also included in the pattern. It’s a great way to use up those extra pieces and have a fun bonus project to show for it!
